CPL Z H LIM
yes i have survived SISPEC Charlie for about 10weeks..
during which i went through the toughest training i had so far in short stint of about 5months in the Singapore Armed Forces. during these 10weeks, i got to watch other companies in SISPEC booking out, having their nights-out, unoffical games day, canteen breaks and etc etc etc..
all while Charlie company is still doing endless area cleaning, weapon cleaning, physical training, tekan sessions by two infamous Warrant Officers and etc etc etc...
today i was talking to another Corporal...
me: "oh.. so what company you from ah?"
him: "oh... delta loh.. you leh?"
"charlie..."
"wah.. nabeh~ respect sia, brudder!"
and he capped the sentence off with a look befitting of a schoolgirl when she seesCPL Lim Zi Hao Brad Pitt.
ok.. so what if i made the last part up.
truth is... i have been through a helluva time in SISPEC. one which i hated so much that hatred have morphed itself into love for Charlie and what me and my fellow brothers have been through...
i'll try to recall as much as i can about the memorable moments in the last few weeks of our Basic Section Leader Course..
Exercise Nutcracker..
as the name suggests, is designed tocrack our nuts push ourselves beyond our physical and mental limits... the exercise is supposed last for 3D2N without any sleep but just diggin diggin diggin... to create a trench where 2people is able to live in and take up a defensive firing position.
madness i tell you.
each second of digging seems like an eternity to those blistered hands and exhausted arms.
the lack of sleep didn't help too...
some of us, including myself, experienced some supernatural encounters. but we seriously can't decide if it's due to our tired minds, which caused us to hallucinate, or is it something else....
thankfully, our platoon is blessed with an extremely nice platoon commander who let us steal some sleep here and there... =p
all of us were so zonked out after the exercise.
Exercise Grand Slam
it was the final and the summary exercise of our BSLC, one which i want to forget in a hurry please..(but i know it wouldnt happen) i screwed up the mission i was in charge of... bad.
gotten serious sandflies bites which made my wrists look like something out of a really bad advert to raise awareness of STDs.
EEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwww *shrieks*
and a freaking bad heat rash that made me roll in pain. literally. yes it's THAT bad.
luckily my PC helped me with his secret receipe for curing heat rash; hurts like **** but heals in a flash! =)
and i came face to face with a wild boar! first time i saw a wild boar! first time i saw a wild animal so close...
how close? picture a couple on the beach watching the sunset then they turn and look deep into each other's eyes....
yes. this close.
i was happily in la-la land when i was suddenly awaken by my section mates,, mark and desmond, fanatic shouts... feeling pissed, i didn't really understand what they are shouting. it sounded a bit like:
scratching my head, i turned and...
the next moment, it ran off with my field pack in its mouth before jerking it violently.
my combat rations flew out. wrappings were promptly torn apart and there it was, 5metres in front of me, having a 8-course meal complete with coffee and dessert.
thankfully for it,i didnt have the balls being an animal activist, i didnt shove my bayonet up where-the-sun-dont-shine to give it a painful lesson.
28Kilometres Route March (graduation march)
it started at 9pm. ended at 7am the next day.
endless walking.
the end result(s)?
a parade where we are presented with our Corporal insignias.
a pair of legs that don't feel like mine anymore.
and one hell of a bad groin abrasion.
there are many many other incidents and moments but i just pointed out these few major ones. but i guess memories of my SISPEC days will always stay with me. along with the friendships forged.
